Proud Warrior:  A1C Duane Dunlap

Page Under Construction

A1C Duane Dunlap was injured on June 15, 2007, when the Humvee he was riding in was attacked by an Improvised Explosive Device outside of Camp Bucca, Iraq.  Dunlap, who was a turret gunner in a four-vehicle convoy was injured when a particularly powerful type of IED, known as an explosively formed penetrator, breached the Humvees armor and started a fire inside the vehicle.  A1C Dunlap received shrapnel wounds and was burned by the blast.  Despite his injuries, A1C Dunlap dropped from his turret position into the burning vehicle as help save the truck commander who was injured and tangled in radio cords.
