SSgt Lilley was injured on April 15, 2007, when the Humvee he was traveling in was attacked by an Improvised Explosive Device.  SSgt Lilley, who was the turret gunner, received multiple shrapnel wounds and head wounds as a result of a coordinated attack by insurgents that included RPG rockets and small arms fire.  SSgt Lilley was on temporary assignment from the 91st Security Forces Group, Minot AFB, ND.
